August 2022 Newsletter
Welcome from CEO Mark Bustard
This quarter has seen a welcome increase in in-person activity, with the team involved in multiple events taking place. Not least of these was our Annual Conference, and it was great to see so many of you at the TIC in June for the return of face to face conferencing with all the benefits of collaboration, networking, and knowledge exchange that comes with it. We also saw the launch of the refresh of the National Plan for IB which sets out stretch targets based on successful growth to-date.
The conference wasn’t the only opportunity to see colleagues again; the Scottish Fermentation Network held its 10th meeting in May, and the Flex Bio team ran the first Certificate in Upstream Bioprocessing three-day training course in June, receiving excellent feedback from participants.
Our newest tranche of MSc students started their industrial placements in May and we wish them well on this valuable part of their course. Congratulations go to Lentitek, who won the IBioIC Award of £100,000 investment in the Scottish EDGE awards in June, and congratulations to the four winners of the latest round of the IBioIC Feasibility Fund.
It's been a busy quarter for our members and I would urge you to take a look through the exciting stories of growth and development from across the bioeconomy.
Finally, a very warm welcome to our newest members this quarter: Artisan Roast, BIA, EERS, Mawkit, SAOS, and Zenith AI.
I hope you get an opportunity to have a well-deserved break over the summer period, and I look forward to seeing many of you over the coming quarter.
Mark
