IBioIC meeting with the Minister for Trade, Investment and Innovation

IBioIC’s CEO Mark Bustard and Technical Director Ian Archer met with the Minister for Trade, Investment and Innovation, Ivan McKee MSP, regarding the competition outcome of the UK Industrial Strategy Strength in Places Fund (SiPF). The ministerial engagement was prompted by a letter from Minister McKee, expressing commiserations for the unsuccessful SIPF bid, the correspondence was copied to the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney MSP; the Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Fair Work and Culture, Fiona Hyslop MSP; and, the Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, Richard Lochhead MSP.

Through IBioIC’s work with the farming industry on the benefits of re-establishing sugar beet production, IBioIC’s Technical Director Ian Archer secured a meeting with Mairi Gougeon MSP at Stracathro Estate, with farm Manager Gordon Cairns to view the sugar beet crop trials taking place at Stracathro. Mairi Gougeon MSP is the Minister for Rural Affairs and Natural Environment, however this was a constituency site visit as Stracathro is based in the Angus North and Mearns constituency.

IBioIC’s CEO Mark Bustard and Public Affairs Manager Debbie McCreath met with Liz Smith MSP, the newly appointed Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform. IBioIC shared with the new Shadow Cab Sec how industrial biotechnology can help drive a green economy, as well as IBioIC’s role in the wider sustainability landscape.
