On February 25th BBIA held its annual conference in London, just before the panic over the coronavirus began to grip. The room was full with over 100 participants from all relevant sectors to our industry: packaging, waste management, standards, public authorities, government.

25 speakers were involved in a format in which five panels were organised with a key note speaker and panelists replying to them and to the audience.  The specific sessions were on waste management, government policies, food waste management, packaging labelling and the revised EPR system.

These helped the audience understand where both industry and government think the sector is heading and there were encouraging signs regarding the uptake of compostable materials, with a market place of now around 20,000 tons in the UK and growing fast.
