Projects and Funding

The IBioIC Projects team have been busy managing a very popular round of Innovation Funding, which saw a record number of applications. Congratulations to ScotBio, who have been awarded funding to work with academics at the University of Edinburgh and Robert Gordon University. The team will develop ways of recycling the water used in ScotBio’s processes, while extracting a bioactive polysaccharide for cosmetic and pharmaceutical markets.

The Feasibility funding stream continues to be popular, and the next call has just been launched. This round is slightly different so check out the IBioIC funding pages for more details.

Spin out support is still available to support the commercialisation of academic research and the Facilities Access Fund is open for IBioIC members to access facilities within Scottish Universities.

Another way that IBioIC support academic-industrial collaboration is by attending conferences to showcase IBioIC members and to learn more about the latest innovations within academia. IBioIC’s Project Engagement Manager Isabel Vincent recently attended the Carbon Recycling Network’s annual conference in Nottingham to learn more about gas fermentation. She also visited Harrogate to catch up with the High Value Biorenewables network and hear about biorefining for small volume, high value chemicals.

Finally, a big thank you to Roslin Technologies, who closed their Innovation Fund project this month with a wealth of coverage in the news (read more: https://www.ibioic.com/news-database/researchers-make-meaty-breakthrough-to-support-cultivated-pork-production). It’s great to see such advances in cultured meat being made as a result of a strong academic collaboration.
