Growing the Bioeconomy
It’s been an exciting quarter for the Bioeconomy Cluster Builder as the project partners looked at utilising waste gases for chemical production, hosted a marathon 12 hour showcase event as part of IBioIC23, and made a major announcement about the programme’s future.
Waste Gases to Chemicals
On 2 March, the team hosted Waste Gases to Chemicals, a webinar exploring the transformation of CO and CO2 to high value chemicals. The event was attended by 220 delegates and held in conjunction with Innovate UK KTN Circular Economy Innovation Network and featured presentations from Croda Flue2Chem Project, CPI Industrial Biotechnology team, Ingenza and Phase Biolabs were followed by a busy Q&A session.
Recordings of this and other past BCB webinar are available via the BCB website.
Made with Biology!
On 14 March the team hosted a unique IBioIC23 fringe event at Glasgow’s Queen St Station. Made with Biology! was a departure from regular activity and featured an exhibition and digital media campaign.
The 12 hour event showcased bio-based products including home and personal care items, construction materials, textiles and clothing, and packaging, featured products from IBioIC members including IndiNature, Revive and ScotBio, and highlighted bioeconomy messaging around sutainability, resilience and creating value from by-products and waste.
The team welcomed a wide range of visitors to the exhibit including members of the public, academics, industry representatives and MSPs.
The future of the BCB
IBioIC and Innovate UK KTN were delighted in April to announce their continued collaboration on BCB activity after March 2023 saw the end of the ERDF funded portion of the project.
Eager to maintain momentum and building on connections made to date, the partners have three focus areas for the year ahead; bio-based chemical manufacturing, applications of IB in agri-food, and textiles and bio-materials.
Keep an eye on dedicated social media and website for forthcoming activity, and get in touch if you have any suggestions, or would like to get involved:
