NCIMB celebrates moves to new purpose-built facility

NCIMB rounded-off 2022 with a move to new purpose-built premises, after months of careful planning.

The new single-story building provides a state-of-the-art laboratory space that includes: a PCR, sequencing & identification services laboratory suite; energy and environmental services laboratories;  cold, low temperature and ultra-low temperature storage facilities, and a category 3 laboratory.

NCIMB marked its 40th anniversary as a limited company in 2022, and the move to new premises is a fantastic way to have celebrated this milestone. The new facilities will allow the company to build on past success and further develop the products and services that they can offer industry and academia. For example, the move has allowed them to increase sequencing capacity for their microbial identification services, allowing the delivery of more same and next day turn-around samples.  NCIMB also plans to develop and expand its microbiome related services.

NCIMB is a biotechnology company providing innovative microbial solutions for life sciences, food & drink, energy, and environmental businesses. The company identifies, characterises, quantifies and stores microorganisms to support and de-risk process and product development needs, as well as supplying strains from the UK’s largest open collection of environmental and industrially valuable bacteria.

NCIMB’s CEO Edward Green said: “Our new home is located on the Wellheads Industrial Estate in Aberdeen, just a couple of miles from the old premises. It is a great location with respect to transport links and we hope we will be welcoming customers and collaborators to visit the new premises in the coming months.”
