Networking and Learning events

Scottish Fermentation Network

The 11th Scottish Fermentation event took place in Edinburgh on 10 November. The event was kindly sponsored by VWR International and included exciting talks from Peter Gardner at VWR, Ian Maynard at ENOUGH and Joana Pereira at Holiferm. The event was then followed by a tour and tasting at the Holyrood Distillery. The goal of SFN event is to bring together those within fermentation and continue to create an exciting network.

An SFN committee has been created and will look to come together to plan the next SFN event in April. If you are interested in joining this committee please let us know.

 Women in Synthetic Biology

The Women in Synthetic Biology event finished 2022 with an interesting session on bacteria babies and boobs with Sioned and Lydia from BoobyBiome. Fast forward to 2023, the first of the year was on marketing with Richard at Sciad Communications and Rosheen at Asklepios BioPharmaceutical highlighting how marketing can be the difference between success and failure.

You can now follow WiSB on LinkedIn for notifications for upcoming events and to keep in touch.

Member Social

The member social took place in Edinburgh on 7th December. We hope that all those who attended enjoyed the informal networking event as much as we did!

The event kicked off with an update on IBioIC activities, followed by industry presentations from Sean McGrath at Entrepreneurial Scotland Foundation, Tim Hartley at Scotland Can B, Beth Nichols at Talent Beyond Boundaries and Sarah Scott & Colm Boyd at Ingenza. The newest members of IBioIC were then offered an opportunity to introduce themselves through quick-fire presentations. After the talks networking continued over drinks before drawing to a close at 5pm.

The member social is an opportunity to bring together members to network and build connections with fellow IB members. The next member social will be in spring - stay tuned for further details.
